Membership is open to museums and galleries, their staff and volunteers, museum sector providers, museum retirees and students undertaking museum related study. There are several different types of membership, each with their own benefits. These are outlined below.
All types and categories of membership allow access to National Networks and maNexus.

Individual membership of Museums Australia is open to individuals that support the objects of the Association and the Association's Code of Ethics who do not deal (buy and sell for profit) cultual property.

Institutional membership has all the benefits of a Gold Individual Member (see table above). Institutional membership categories are based on the number of people employed by the organisation.
Organisations that have no employees or are run purely by volunteers, are classified as 'Org 1'.

An Associate category has been introduced to enable interested people, who are not directly involved in the museum sector, to join and participate in the activities of Museums Australia's National Networks.
To be eligible to become an Associate of MA you must conform to all four of the below criteria.
