What is the Sydney Chapter?

The Sydney Chapter is a regionally based interest group within the organisation of Museums Australia (NSW). The aim of the Chapter is to develop the network of MA members in the Sydney area by holding informative and social events at our museums.

What does the Chapter do?

The Sydney Chapter assists museums in the Sydney area to develop workshops and social events in order to bring museum workers (both paid and volunteer) together. These workshops develop our professional understanding of the museum field and increase our contacts. Hosting a Sydney Chapter event has the added benefit of increasing recognition of your museum, archive or heritage site.

How much do workshops cost to attend?

All day workshops/seminars:
Includes morning tea, lunch & afternoon tea

• $40 (MA member)
• $50 (non MA member) 
• $20 (second and subsequent participants from one organisation)

Special views/talks:

• $10 (MA member)
• $15 (non MA member) 
• $5   (second and subsequent participants from one organisation)

Cheques and money orders:

When booking events and workshops call the contact person to make a booking first (contact person's details can be found on the Events and Workshops page).

How do I become a member?

If you or your organisation is a member of Museums Australia and you work or volunteer in a museum within greater metropolitan Sydney you are welcome to join the Sydney Chapter.

There is no additional cost to join the Sydney Chapter of Museums Australia (NSW).

What are the benefits of participating in the Sydney Chapter?

The practical workshop/seminar topics will be of direct benefit to both individual and organisation members. The presenters are experienced in their field providing us with the latest information and encouraging group discussion.
MA member organisations hosting a Chapter event have the added benefit of raising the profile of their museum or institution. We welcome all museums in the Sydney area to host an event at their museum. Contact the Sydney Chapter committee for more information.
