Museums Australia (Victoria) Key Programs

The Museum Accreditation Program (MAP)
The Museum Accreditation Program (MAP) is in its 12th year of operation. MAP is a tool for museum groups to develop with reference to accepted industry standards. MAP relies on the support of museum professionals who comprise the MAP Committee and On Site Panels. All personnel volunteer their time providing valuable input to the program and extensive feedback to participating museums.

MAP is a dual accreditation program with the Australian Tourism Accreditation Association. This means that accredited museums can display the 'tick logo' used for accredited tourism businesses and can also share the benefits associated with this program.

Training and Professional Development Program
Our Training and Professional Development Program services include phone and print based advice, referral, workshops and seminars. This program includes a conservation program that includes workshops developed by a conservator and environmental monitoring training and equipment that is available to museums.

Membership services
Membership services identify and implement new initiatives for the benefit of existing and potential members, including previews, events, seminars and lectures.

InSITE is the Museums Australia (Victoria) members magazine. It presents a variety of informative and discursive articles related to a theme, as well as providing news about the sector, funding deadlines and new initiatives in the branch.

Victorian members of Museums Australia automatically receive inSITE five times a year. If you live interstate, overseas or are not a member of Museums Australia and you would like to receive inSITE, please click here to access a subscription order form.

To learn more about inSITE go to www.mavic.asn.au or call Roisin O'Dwyer on (03) 8341 7344 or email insite@mavic.asn.au

The Regional Exhibition Touring Initiative
The Regional Exhibition Touring Initiative provides $40,000 in grants for museums to develop and tour exhibitions throughout Victoria. RETI also provides an advice and information service specifically aimed at improving touring activity in regional Victoria.
