Security and Emergency Operations Special Interest Group

This group has an important role to play in the overall requirement for museums and galleries to have effective risk management plans in place with regard to visitors, staff and collections.

The SIG also strives to be able to provide support for smaller institutions in the form of advice, procedural templates and emergency planning.

The specific aims of the Security Operations SIG are to:

  • Promote the importance of security and customer service in the museum environment;
  • Source, investigate, and recommend new technology that will enhance the security of a museum's collection and the museum's staff and visitors;
  • Foster exchanges of ideas with other cultural intuitions and assist smaller museum's with any security challenges they may have.
