The Photography Special Interest Group

The Photography SIG aims to provide a forum to facilitate discussion of issues relating to photography collections in museums, galleries, libraries, archives and historical societies.

The SIG aims to:

  • Create a network connecting those who work with or are interested in photography collections. The network is cross-disciplinary, including professionals from across the museum field such as curators, collection managers, conservators, public programmers, publishers and others. The network is intended to draw on professionals from regional, metropolitan and national museums.
  • Provide a forum for asking and answering questions, circulating research, sharing knowledge, debating issues, and promoting collections, exhibitions and publications relating to photography.
  • Facilitate the building of a more critical discourse about photographic collections, their preservation, interpretation and use.
  • Tap into local and international developments to establish best practice standards amongst Australian collecting institutions.
  • Encourage interest and research in photographic collections and disseminate research results through workshops and seminars.
