Museum Leadership Program
Running in 2012
The Australian Maritime Museums Council is a network of museums, associations and people that work to preserve maritime collections. It provides a forum to discuss ideas, debate issues and exchange information. It also provides an avenue to build contacts and share the mutual support of others working with heritage vessels and maritime collections.
Members: Members of the AMMC include large and small maritime museums, general museums with significant maritime collections and organizations that preserve maritime heritage such as historic vessels, lighthouses or buildings.
Website: The Australian Maritime Museums Council runs a social networking site for members to exchange ideas and information. You can visit the site at http://ammcouncil.ning.com.
Conference: The Australian Maritime Museums Council presents annual conferences for members and associates to debate issues that are specific to maritime collections, share information in practical workshops, and provide avenues for members to build their networks. They also provide opportunities to visit new ports and new coastlines with introductions from local experts.
The AMMC’s conferences have been a particular strength in recent years. Our last conference was presented in Warrnambool from 21 to 23 February 2010. It attracted over 70 delegates with representatives from every state. It included an active social program as well as a full schedule of papers on subjects ranging from building audiences to using new technology and changes to survey requirements for heritage vessels.
The conference papers have been published on the AMMC’s website http://ammcouncil.ning.com
Our next conference is planned for March 2011. More information is available on the Events page.
