Sports Heritage Special Interest Group

 

The Sports Heritage SIG was formed in 1990 in response to the growth of specialist sports museums. The SIG exists to serve the needs of those collecting institutions who hold material culture relating to the sports history of Australia with national, state, regional and local significance.

Specifically, the primary objectives of the Sports Heritage SIG are to:

  • Encourage communication between institutions with sports collections
  • Develop policy for consideration by Museums Australia relating to sports museums
  • Promote museum best practice within sports museums
  • Advocate on behalf of sports museums as required
