We draw to your attention a number of satellite events on offer to those in Sydney and visiting Sydney during the week 18-22 April.
18 April
Museums and Galleries NSW and the Australia Council are partnering to present John Haworth (Cherokee), Director of the National Museum of the American Indian George Gustav Heye Center New York. Haworth will provide an insight into how the National Museum of the American Indian in New York engages with Native Americans and other Americans to represent contemporary living culture. Place: Rover Thomas Auditorium, Australia Council for the Arts, 372 Elizabeth Street (cnr Cooper Street), Surry Hills NSW 2010. If travelling by train, take Devonshire Street exit at Central Railway Station. Drinks at 6.30pm. Presentation at 7pm. The Museum Appreciation Society presents the Sydney Museum Marathon. This unique walking tour will consist of a culturally packed day of Museum and Gallery visiting fun. The day will include visits to the Powerhouse Museum, Chinese Friendship Gardens, Australian Museum, Art Gallery NSW and the Museum of Contemporary art. Stop for tea and lunch at the best venues throughout the day. The tour begins at 9:45 am start at the Power house Museum and will end at about 4:30 pm at the MCA.
The cost is $35.This covers all museum entries and all profits will go to Museum Appreciation Society end of year donation to Blue Shield. This great organisation is responsible for cultural heritage conservation, restoration and preservation of areas affected by disasters. Blue Shield depends on donations and volunteers to operate.
