Museum Leadership Program
Running in 2012
Place, Space and Identity:Macquarie University, 18-19 April 2011
These are pivotal times for the museum sector in New South Wales. Globally resources are being progressively constrained whilst nationally we have seen the defunding of the Collections Council of Australia in 2010 and uncertainties about the future of Collections Australia Network.
In New South Wales, Arts NSW has contracted Professor Amanda Lawson to work on the Strategic Plan for the Visual Arts and Museum Sector in NSW. The focus of this work is on the small to medium sector throughout the state. Museums Australia (NSW) is preparing a submission and is planning a comprehensive needs analysis.
For this reason, the branch has broadened its annual Chapter Representatives’ meeting into a state symposium with speakers on a range of issues, including technology, advocacy, sustainability and Aboriginal culture. Workshops and presentations on areas of sector-wide relevance, a gallery exhibition and dinner complete the symposium. There are opportunities for making conversation and connection. We intend that the symposium outcomes will be a lasting and significant resource for sector planners, policy makers and museum workers and volunteers.
For delegates visiting Sydney, Macquarie University is easily accessible by train at the Macquarie University railway station.
On behalf of the Museums Australia NSW branch I hope you can join us and be part of the dialogue on the future of museums and collections in NSW.
