Museum Australia National Networks bring together groups of members who share particular areas of professional practice or common interests.
In response to the growing demand for targeted programs for early-career professionals, MA has created a network for emerging professionals.
What is the network?
The aim of the network is to facilitate career growth through networking and professional development opportunities. The network will provide information and support for employees, volunteers, and students in the earlier years of a GLAM-related career throughout Australia.
What can members expect from the network?
The network intends to offer a range of networking and professional development opportunities, including:
- mini conference/sponsored sessions as part of the annual Museums Australia National Conference;
- a conference bursary program;
- website/Facebook/blog that serves as a forum and ideas hub for professionals entering the GLAM sector;
- lightning talks program;
- informal catch ups and networking opportunities; and,
- an AGM.
How will the network be structured?
A national committee comprising an executive (President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and a Communications Manager) and ordinary members representing each state will coordinate the network. The committee will oversee general direction and national activities of the network with groups operating in each state and territory.
How can I get involved?
Joining the network
You can join the network online via the member portal on the MA website or when renewing your membership, select the network from the list of special interest groups.
The network will operate with the support of MA. Although there are no age restrictions or limits on joining this group, in accordance with the Museums Australia Constitution and By-Laws, all members of MA networks must be current individual members of MA.
There is a small fee payable annually with your MA membership to join the network. These funds will be used to support future events and programs.
Joining your state group
If you would like to be a part of building this new network and delivering events in your state, please join the network and get in touch. The network is still in its formative stages but getting involved will help make it a reality.
There will be a national launch where we hope to video link all the groups around Australia who have joined. The aim is to hold the inaugural Annual General Meeting and formal election in 2017. Please note that all nominees for the committee must be an individual member of MA and the network.
How else can I contribute?
Perhaps you have ideas for an event, mad web or graphic design skills that you think might help the network or access to venues? If so we’d love to hear from you!
