A profusion of activities commemorating the First World War have occurred during 2014-2018. From the opening of new museums and the refurbishment of existing ones, to fields of crocheted poppies and digitisation projects, many of these have been developed or supported by galleries, libraries, archives and museums across Australia.

Join a panel of experts who have been variously involved with centenary activities at Canberra institutions and beyond, to explore what these programs mean and how we might assess them as the centenary comes to a close.

The panel

Facilitator: Mark Whitmore (formerly of the Imperial War Museum and Australian War Memorial)

Panel members include:

  • Professor Joan Beaumont, lecturer, Australian National University
  • Anne Bennie, Assistant Director (Public Programs Branch), Australian War Memorial
  • Dr Anne-Marie Conde, Senior Curator, National Archives of Australia
  • Dr Guy Hansen, Director (Exhibitions), National Library of Australia
